The Droid X (running Android 2.1) from Verizon and Motorola was announced today, and along with that, Google announced that it is open sourcing Android 2.2 (or Froyo) to its partners who manufacture Android devices. "Customers will enjoy great new features and improved browser performance," says Goole VP of Engineering Andy Rubin. "And developers will benefit from new tools such as Android cloud-to-device messaging (which makes it easier for mobile applications to sync data).
