Google Reportedly Buying Plannr
September 28, 2010, 8:00 amGoogle is buying Plannr, according to unconfirmed reports. Plannr is a mobile social calendar app, or as it's officially described, "Plannr is the up-to-the-minute, simple way to make plans with your friends."
While details of the alleged acquisition are unknown, it is speculated that it is more about acquiring the team behind Plannr than acquiring Plannr itself. Google of course already has Google Calendar, and the company recently said it is looking to add a social layer to more of its existing product, which is essentially what "Google Me" is.
Google has made 23 acquisitions so far this year, and many of them are social-related. As of the beginning of August, the company had already dropped $1.1 billion on acquisitions, and they haven't stopped since then.
With Planner itself, users can update their friends when their plans change with a single message and everyone gets a text messages. Plans have stream updates, and users can stream to send a message to everyone who is coming or share their location.Plannr will then email or text everyone.
Plannr will sync with Google Calendar, iCal, Outlook, or the calendar on your iPhone. The service can also be used by email.
