Now Take a Sneak Peek At Your Gmail
April 9, 2010, 7:40 am
Many of our readers use Google’s Gmail service during the course of the day and anything that can make it more efficient is always welcome. We like to report on these updates because as marketers efficiency can mean the difference between getting work done and feeling good or being behind and feeling not so good.
When we saw TechCrunch report on a new offering in Google Labs for a Sneak Peek feature to help get a preview of your email messages we had to take a look. I’m sold. It’s pretty cool.
After activating Sneak Peak in Labs, either right click on a message or use the handy keyboard shortcut ‘h’, and the preview pane will pop up. You probably won’t be able to see the entire message you’re looking at, but it’s definitely enough to figure out if the message is important or if it should promptly be sent to your archive. You can use the ‘j’ and ‘k’ shortcuts to scroll through your list of messages, looking at a preview of each.
This product improvement, while only in the Labs stage, is just more evidence that while others complain about what Google is doing, Google just keeps doing what it does. It looks to improve its products, services and offerings. It is willing to experiment. It does what good companies do.
Are they perfect? No way. Who or what is? I just like that they keep plugging along. Maybe we all should.
